Summer fruits list

Apricots

Apricots are in season December to February, grown mainly in South Australia's Riverland and parts of Victoria.

Blueberries

Blueberry supply continues through early summer from farms across the eastern seaboard.

Cherries

Cherry season peaks in summer. NSW (Young, Orange), Victoria (Goulburn Valley) and South Australia pick through December and January, then Tasmania runs from mid-December to late February, its maritime climate producing the slowest-ripening fruit of the season. Australia is roughly self-sufficient through summer. Cherries outside this window are almost certainly imports.

Lychees

Lychee season runs November to February, with almost all supply from Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Mangoes

Summer is peak mango season in Australia, with Kensington Pride, Calypso and R2E2 varieties in full supply from the Northern Territory and Queensland.

Pineapples

Pineapples are available year-round from Queensland, with peak supply and sweetness in summer.

Plums

Plum season runs December to March, with blood plums, sugar plums and other varieties from the southern states.

Strawberries

Strawberries remain available through summer from Victorian and Tasmanian farms, with smaller but intense fruit.

Watermelon

Watermelon peaks December to February, with Queensland and the Northern Territory producing the bulk of the crop.

Dragon Fruit

Dragon fruit (pitaya) is a summer–autumn fruit in Australia, with peak supply in early autumn. White-flesh varieties come from the Northern Territory; red-flesh from Queensland. Around 80% of dragon fruit sold here is imported, mostly from Vietnam — so labels are worth a glance. See Dragon Fruit Season for the full breakdown.
