Winter produce list

Apples

Autumn-harvest apples from Victoria, Tasmania and Batlow stock shelves through winter, with Pink Lady and Granny Smith holding best in controlled-atmosphere storage well into spring.

Avocados

Avocado supply peaks in winter as Western Australian Hass production hits its high, making it one of the best times of year for quality.

Broccoli

Winter is peak broccoli season. Queensland's Lockyer Valley and Stanthorpe peak in July and August, NSW's Riverina and Windsor follow, and Victoria (which grows close to half of national supply) peaks in August and September, giving the best prices and firmest heads of the year.

Celery

Celery is available year-round, with Victorian winter crops particularly crisp and a consistent base for soups and stocks from June to August.

Fennel

Grapefruit

Grapefruit peaks through winter, with white and pink/ruby varieties from the Riverland and Queensland.

Leeks

Mandarins

Mandarin season is in full swing through winter, with Imperial, Afourer and Murcott varieties all at good supply.

Oranges

Winter is peak orange season in Australia, with Riverland and Riverina navels at their sweetest and blood oranges making a brief appearance.

Parsnips

Parsnips are sweetened by frost, making winter their best season. Look for them alongside other root vegetables from June to August.

Pears

Autumn-harvest pears carry through winter in cold storage, with Beurre Bosc and Packham the most common varieties available June to August.

Pumpkin

Autumn-harvest pumpkin carries through winter, with butternut and Queensland Blue storing exceptionally well for months.
